In individual therapy, I work one-to-one with adults who are struggling with all manner of emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties, including anxiety and depression, phobias, self-harm, and lack of confidence.
Gestalt therapy aims to help people become more aware of the habits and fixed patterns that influence our experience of life and how we relate to others. With awareness comes choice, personal responsibility, and resourcefulness.
The Gestalt approach
Gestalt therapy holds the idea that unfinished situations from our past detrimentally influence our present day living, our ways of relating to others and ourselves, our creativity and performance in what we do, and our sense of satisfaction and contentment in life. Often we may have lost touch with what gives us meaning and purpose. We are relational creatures and it’s our ability to make good contact, and withdraw well from contact, that gives us a feeling of belonging, passion, and wholeness.
Rather than just talking about problems, a Gestalt therapist enables the client to experience themselves and their difficulties in a new way, through various forms of experimentation. This allows clients to safely explore the range of choices that emerge in life situations and relationships.
While outcomes cannot be guaranteed, many clients report having positive benefit and often experience more satisfaction in life and in their relationships with others. You will usually have a sense of whether this type of therapy, and my style of working, will help you after one or two sessions.
Finding a good match with a counsellor or psychotherapist is very important as research shows it is the quality of the therapeutic relationship that is the main factor in successful therapy. Please follow this link to read more about my psychotherapy and counselling services.
To help you find the right therapist, I provide an initial short consultation free of charge, with no obligation to make any further appointments. I prefer that you decide after leaving this session so you can feel sure about your choice to commit to working with me. If you do decide to, you’ll be required to sign a contract, which you’ll find here: therapy contract – individual. My fee for individual therapy is £40 to £60 for sessions lasting 45-minutes.
