The Erotic in Counselling
In therapy and counselling the erotic is always in the room as long as human beings are. Yet working with the erotic is often overlooked, or may at times remain an elephant under the carpets of our consulting rooms.
Our relationships to sex and the erotic often point to our limiting patterns of relating to the world. Sex is a window to the body, another means to help us rediscover and reclaim our emotional, physical and psychological health.
- Workshop: The Erotic in Counselling
- Date: TBA
- Cost: £60 (concessions available for previous workshop attendees and those on low incomes)
- Venue: Friends Meetinghouse, 22 School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BT
Quite often our first experience of sex as children or teenagers influences all future contact, not only our sex lives. Therefore, as therapists and counsellors, it is valuable that we are able to know and understand the impact of our first sexual introductions in life, and the resultant sexual attitudes these experiences, and the influences of our families and culture, have helped form. This helps us become more aware of our blind-spots, hang-ups and prejudices, and consequently enables us to explore our clients’ erotic processes and help restore themselves as acceptable sexual beings.
This is a one-day CPD workshop suitable for humanistic counsellors and trainees. Participants from other approaches are also welcome.
My workshops are experiential, which means that I want participants to actually experience the Gestalt therapy approach rather than just being provided with intellectual information. Gestalt therapy is primarily non-verbal and as such I aim for workshops to give participants a real feel for this approach.
Please note: Participants have choice throughout in relation to taking part in exercises and experiments. Handouts and CPD attendance certificates are supplied. Tea, coffee, water and biscuits will be provided. Lunch is not included but there are many eating places nearby. There is disabled access to this venue.
Booking policy: I don’t require a deposit, just a commitment that you will attend. You pay in full on the day by cheque or cash. This avoids the hassle of sending payment through the post. However, if you reserve a place and then cancel within a week before the workshop I would want you to pay a cancellation fee of £20. And if you don’t attend on the day of the workshop the full amount is payable.
