Understanding Sex Addiction
Is sex addiction a myth, an excuse for those who don’t take responsibility for their actions, or is it truly an addiction? This workshop will help qualified counsellors and trainees understand sex addiction and how to work with partners of those affected.
It explores some of the origins of sex addiction, what happens in the brain and nervous system when addiction takes hold, the impact on partners of those who are affected, and some practical treatment methods.
- Workshop: Understanding Sex Addiction
- Date: TBA
- Cost: £60 (concessions available for previous workshop attendees and those on low incomes)
- Venue: Friends Meetinghouse, 22 School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BT
Twenty percent of all internet searches are for porn. Sex addiction is becoming an increasing problem for many people. Like all addictions, this one holds a lot of shame for the addicted person, and this often makes it difficult for them to seek help. At present there are relatively few therapists across the UK who specialise in this issue. As a Gestalt therapist, I will be offering some Gestalt theory perspectives and practice points.
Please note, this is not a training that qualifies attendees to work with sex addiction; instead, it will help therapists, counsellors and trainees understand sex addiction and, in particular, how to work with partners of those who are addicted.
This is a one-day CPD workshop suitable for humanistic counsellors and trainees. Participants from other approaches are also welcome.
My workshops are experiential, which means that I want participants to actually experience the Gestalt therapy approach rather than just being provided with intellectual information. Gestalt therapy is primarily non-verbal and as such I aim for workshops to give participants a real feel for this approach.
Please note: Participants have choice throughout in relation to taking part in exercises and experiments. Handouts and CPD attendance certificates are supplied. Tea, coffee, water and biscuits will be provided. Lunch is not included but there are many eating places nearby. There is disabled access to this venue.
Booking policy: I don’t require a deposit, just a commitment that you will attend. You pay in full on the day by cheque or cash. This avoids the hassle of sending payment through the post. However, if you reserve a place and then cancel within a week before the workshop I would want you to pay a cancellation fee of £20. And if you don’t attend on the day of the workshop the full amount is payable.
